Damages for Family of Boy Fatally Injured While Cycling

Compensation has been obtained for the family of a 15-year-old boy who died after being hit by a drunk driver while he was cycling.

The boy, described by his family as a beautiful, kind, thoughtful, funny and talented young man, was out cycling as his permitted daily exercise during the first COVID-19 lockdown when he was hit by a car. The driver left the scene of the accident without calling an ambulance.

After calling his phone, the boy's family were told by a passer-by that he had been in an accident. They found him on a grass verge and attempted to perform CPR, but he died as a result of the head injuries he had sustained.

It was established that the driver had been drunk and had been on his phone without using a hands-free device. He was convicted of causing death by dangerous driving and received a prison sentence of 5 years and 11 months.

The family have secured settlements which will help them pay for the treatment they need to try to process the trauma of losing a beloved son and brother.
